What is Cranio Sacral Therapy?
Cranio Sacral Therapy (CST) was developed by osteopathic physician,
John E. Upledger, DO,OMM,in 1970. CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the function of the cranio
sacral system and allowing the therapist to go as deep as influencing the nervous system. The cranio sacral system holds cerebral
fluid, which is produced in the brain. The fluid is bathing the brain and the spinal cord and is supplying essential
nutrition to the brain, nervous system and organs in our body. Tuning into this system allows the therapist to find
restrictions and work on releasing these around the brain and the spinal cord, affecting the entire body from inside out.
As a result the body relaxes, decreases the effects of pain, muscle tension, trauma, stress and anxiety. It enhances
the body's healing process allowing the entire body to relax and self-correct. It is an effective mind-body approach for everybody's
personal healing process.
An expansion
of CST is SER (Somato Emotional Release), which works to release emotional energy associated with an old trauma or accident.
Imaging and dialoging techniques may be used to guide clients through these emotional releases. Emotions and feelings held
in the tissue can be the underlying cause of diseases, which can in turn prevent the healing process.
